Cape May's historic Victorian homes and shore cottages sit right in the path of coastal weather. Salt air corrodes standard flashing and fasteners years sooner than it does inland, and nor'easters drive rain under any shingle edge that isn't sealed and nailed to high-wind spec.
For roofs this close to the water we use corrosion-resistant flashing and follow the shingle manufacturer's high-wind installation requirements, with extra attention to eaves, ridges, and valleys. After a storm, we inspect, photograph the damage, and repair both the roof and any siding that came loose.
